The Seven Principles of Our School

High Expectations

high expectations

We hold high expectations for ourselves, and always do our personal best. We intend for students to be well prepared for college, so that they may choose any occupation they desire and in which they find fulfillment.

Responsibility

Trash cleanup

We all need to take responsibility for our actions. We learn by experiencing the consequences of our actions, whether positive or negative.

Small Classes

Small group

We like small classes (25:1 student to teacher ratio on average) and small schools (200 students) and like how this leads to a “second home” atmosphere.

Hands-On Learning

Hands on learning

We like hands-on learning, wherever possible, because it’s easier for most students to remember things this way. With hands-on learning, students use all of their senses to master the material. Students end up knowing their subject matter, not just knowing about their subject matter.

Daily Meditation

We set aside some time every day to meditate. Numerous studies have shown a wide range of benefits from daily meditation, including improved physical and mental health, fewer fights and suspensions, higher test scores, and fewer signs of hyperactivity and emotional stress.

Outdoor Activities

Rock climbing

We believe that too many youth don’t get enough chance to be outdoors. Outdoor activities like backpacking, snow sledding, rock climbing and horseback riding build self esteem, provide mental, emotional and physical health, and help youth gain a fresh perspective on life.

Cultural Awareness

cultural awareness

We think that it’s important to learn about our culture and to take pride in that heritage.
