Sunrise Middle School is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for every student. Sexual harassment is not allowed at school, at school activities, on field trips, or in school-related electronic or online communications.
Sexual harassment is unwanted behavior of a sexual nature that makes another person feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, intimidated, unsafe, or disrespected. This can include unwanted touching; sexual comments, jokes, gestures, or rumors; comments about someone’s body; repeatedly asking someone for a date or relationship after they
have said no; showing or sending inappropriate sexual pictures or messages; or other unwanted sexual behavior.
Students should respect each other’s personal boundaries. If someone tells you to stop a behavior that is making them uncomfortable, stop immediately.
If you experience or witness sexual harassment, tell a teacher, counselor, administrator, or another trusted adult at Sunrise. Students may also report concerns through the school’s STOPit reporting system. Reports will be taken seriously and handled as privately as possible.
No retaliation is allowed. A student may not threaten, bully, embarrass, exclude, or punish another student for reporting sexual harassment or helping with an investigation.
Students who engage in sexual harassment may receive appropriate disciplinary consequences and interventions. Sunrise will also provide support to students who have experienced harassment.
At Sunrise, everyone has the right to feel safe, respected, and comfortable at school.
